Rio Grande Village Drive is a 20.3 mile moderately trafficked point-to-point trail located near Big Bend National Park, TX that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for nature trips, birding, and scenic driving and is accessible year-round.
A scenic drive through the desert.
The drive itself is pretty uneventful but I recommend going all the way to the end and hiking to Boquilles Canyon. It is about 3 miles round trip and hot in the summer. It takes you right down the the Rio Grande River. The canyon not as high as Santa Elana is still impressive. You can even take a dip in the river to cool off!
This is a paved road from Panther Junction down to Rio Grande Village, where there's a visitor's center, store, and campground. There's usually about a 10 degree difference in temperature. It was 105 at Rio Grande village, and 95 at Panther Junction in April, 2010, when I was there last.
