Short trail. Not much of a hike, but nice views and good park area by the water if you don't mind the youths.

This park is a spectacular example of native plant restoration in process, in cooperation between the city of Austin and a dedicated nonprofit group. The reward for their work is the thousands of native and migrant birds that dine on and nest in the native grasses and wildflowers every year. In order to protect the ground nests, PLEASE understand that DOGS MUST BE LEASHED and cleaned up after. Their presence alone is enough to disrupt bird behavior. Not too great for hiking but birding is terrific.

Fun hike. The trail up into the hills is great. Dogs loved it and you can even see a few waterfalls. On the other side of the park is a open area right down to the Colorado River. Awesome historic buildings. Nice hidden gem.

Not much in terms of a hiking trail. This is more of a trail/area for taking the dogs off-leash.

Nestled in the hills of Westlake, Commons Ford Ranch is home to some beautiful views of the hills and, oddly enough, dancing hippie-hillbillies (weird, right?). We fell in love with the sunflowers while we were walking. The trail itself is very easy to walk and is short, with changing scenery (fields to forests, lakes to cactus-embedded "wasteland"). It also includes an old-time log home complete with burrs that our poor dog found quite painful. However, we enjoyed our walk and would definitely go back!
