Backbone Rock Trail is a 0.1 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Shady Valley, TN that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible from March until October.
A very short and easy trail with some stairs. It takes you over Backbone Rock. The westernmost part of the trail actually goes to the AT when properly maintained. There are guard rails as you cross over route 133. There are good view of the river as it wraps around Backbone Rock. The parking lot also has a rest room while the loop also has a picnic shelter (reservations may be required), and several picnic table/grills. The loop makes a figure 8 and is only about a half mile. Further up the rode towards Damascus is a campground.
