North Park Red and Blue Trail is a 8.5 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Gibsonia, Pennsylvania that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from April until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
Paved bike/jog trail around North Park lake (5 miles) The bike/jog trail in North Park is a fairly broad paved burm of the road tracing a 5 mile path around North Park Lake. For half of the trail, bikers and joggers share the space but along the one-way Lake Shore Drive, bikers and pedestrians each get their own lane traveling clockwise and share another combined lane in the other direction. There are places to park all along the route along with many water fountains, rest rooms, picnic shelters and playgrounds. There are also more than a dozen Geocaches located within park boundries, four less than 1,000 feet off the path. One could spend a whole day logging them all, and racking up about 15 miles of hiking.
I've completed this trail a few times this year. it's mostly secluded and provides some areas that may be a bit challenging but not that hard. what I like about this trial is the ability to traverse another trail if you like.
Challenging. lots of fun!
Had a great time, proved to be a great workout. Trail markings were confusing at times or I would give it 5. we thought the switchbacks were well thought out. Definitely recommend it, we ended up with a longer distance because of poorly marked areas.
Good combo trail in North Park. Decent ascents to get the blood flowing. Blazes change occasionally and can be difficult to follow at times, but easy enough to find your way back. Clocked in a little longer than the listed mileage. Good views of the lake from the opposite hillside when the cover isn't fully grown in yet.
We had a fun relaxing day of hiking and fishing at North Park! :-)
Heavy Traffic on the road.
This is a very pretty walk/run around the lake. It is our go to place when we just feel like getting our 5miles is easy.
We love this walk/run. It's always pretty around the lake. We try and get here at least once a week.
The Pittsburgh area is most beautiful and this jogging/biking trail surounds a beautiful park. My estimate is that 95% of the trail is asphalt in good condition with the balance being concrete. The trail has several hills that are not too difficult.
Good walk for a road trail. It's an easy walk and there are a few stops along the way such as playgrounds and lake views which is good for my kids. 5 miles is a long time to be sitting in a stroller.
