Mount Nittany is a 4.6 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near State College, PA that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and trail running and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

Up and down, the trails are rocky and steep. Those on top are relatively flat. Following the primary trails is simply a big loop. Take a right at the top and follow the perimeter trail around the whole Mountain and enjoy several overlooks. If you hike to the Mike Lynch Overlook (Trail marker #3), where you can see Penn State's University Park campus and State College, the distance is 0.6 miles. This loop of 1.2 miles will take from 1 to 1 1/2 hours (assuming you take a break to enjoy the view). Safety Note: Fires are not permitted.
Views are okay for the little elevation gain. Rocky but not too bad. Not difficult, but is fairly busy.
Fit this into a drive to DC in late August. Very well marked trails, challenging incline for first half mile then easy loop, can adjust route for available time, I'd park further away to build in a little warm-up/down if squeezing into a long drive again.
Very steep, entire view of state college at the top.
Nice hike - takes about 1.5-2hr to complete the full loop. The initial ascent is steep and rocky, especially if you keep left on the blue trail at the initial fork. Views are good though - during the summer, many of them are hard to appreciate because of the vegetation. But worth it.
Views were really great but you have to earn them in the beginning.
Very steep. Too crowded for my taste. Amazing views, though.
Initially hard and rocky with the majority of the uphill being rocky. Once you get to the top / near top, it really mellows out.
Marked nicely, some really cool views.. I will be doing this trail again for sure!
Good trail, rocky at times, difficult initial ascent, but pleasant, relatively stable inclines after that. Buggy at the beginning but not bad near the top. Well marked signs
Nice hike with a good mix of trails and rocks to make it interesting.
view from the top is very lackluster...just of football stadium and housing developments/warehouses
Took the blue trail backwards from station #10 to #1, which has a steep climb. Trail is mostly rocks, and this October the leaves had fallen and made the trail a little slippery. I started out at 4PM and by 6PM is was very dark. I loved the hike and the trails were marked which was good as it got really dark and i got a little lost. Only a few people on the trail. Was a nice evening!
Lot of fun on a beautiful fall day. Vistas were great due to leaves being mostly off the trees. Those same fallen leaves made the final descent to the bottom a bit treacherous.
Good trail. Decent incline to start and end.
Very well marked and nice walk. Steep incline at beginning on blue trail. Some overlooks were overgrown and couldn't see much, but nice trail and hike.
Very nice trail.
Nice easy pace hike. Blue loop was excellent for trail running. The views need cut back though. I'd recommend going at it numerically backwards. Take out the staircase first, going up. Going down those on loose legs makes falling easy.
