Hartwood Acres Tour is a 1.5 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Indiana Twp, Pennsylvania and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, and mountain biking and is accessible year-round.
Hiked the Purple Trail. After we got past the car parts, scrap wood, and horse manure on the trail it turned out to be a nice and challenging trail. There are some nice fern patches and an overlook on Trail 10 that should look especially nice in the Fall. The Hartwood Acres Mansion is a bonus if you have the time to see it.
Great mountain biking trails. Some technical, some easy, some hills, some flats, it has it all. Great place for all riders. Very beautiful and lots of wildlife.
Don't have a ton to compare to, today was my first time back on singletrack in YEARS, but it was a fun short ride. I did the Orange Trail starting at Hartwood Mansion. It was an even 1 mile. Lots of up & down, but could mostly keep a good rhythm. Mostly dry on a nice spring day with the exception of one muddy stream crossing. Some tough up hills for an out of shape newbie, but easily manageable. Just a small amount of roots & small log hops to make it fun. Multiple more trails from the same trailhead to try next time. Great starter ride.
Felt trailhead was difficult to find. Some over grown areas. A fair number of hills. Much prefer north park
Felt the trail head was difficult to find. Some over grown area. Decent amount of hill I much prefer northbpark
Good single track. Some small technical areas. Overall good trail. Not for young kids
A very nice and easy walk with slight uphill area. But the best trick ever is to get to the Middle Road parking area around 4 pm to 4:30 pm in the winter when the Festival of Lights is running. Walk up to the mansion (all paved road)and by the time you get there it will be almost dusk. The Christmas lights come on and then you walk back down to your car through all the Christmas lights and music, before the gate actually opens for the cars to come through. You have to get the timing right. If you start too late they will be telling you to get out of there!
Hartwood acres also has a bunch of hiking trails in the woods. Some are used for high school cross country meets and others may just be deer paths, I'm not sure. They do have the rear trails marked with colored blazes and in the summer it is nice to wonder off the paved road into the woods. It's a nice place for a run too.
