Views of Delaware Water Gap, Appalachian Trail This past Mother's Day, I decided to explore a section of the Appalachian Trail (AT) on the Pennsylvania side of the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. For those who are unacquainted with the region: the Delaware Water Gap is the spot on the PA/NJ border were the mighty Delaware river turns sharply East in its course and cuts through the Appalachian Mountains. There are a couple of nice spots just below the summit of Mt. Minsi that provide lovely views of this feature as well as of Mt. Tammany in NJ. The old fire tower on Minsi's summit is long gone, only the base of the concrete pillars remains. There is however a massive, fenced-in radio tower further west along the trail. Unfortunately, I had to travel a good mile from the summit before the traffic noise from I-80 receded entirely. The turn-around point of this Hike, Tott's Gap is little more than a dip in the ridgeline where the AT passes across the corner of an old stone building foundation.
Great trail but some nit clearly marked
Met the tree cutting guy
Thanked him for clearing the trails
Nice and well marked trail. Moderate difficulty to the top of the mountain. Just ridge walking after that.
Followed th AT up to Totts Gap and returned on the old fire road. A nice hike, but nothing spectacular.
