This was a great trail for getting short of breath and to make your legs burn. From the start you are going up and the up doesn't really stop until you intersect with the dog river trail. From the trail head on highway 35 to the first intersection, the signs say it is 1.8 miles. This 1.8 is full of switchbacks that make the a lot of elevation gain in a relatively short time. I had a great time, my dad and I did it up to where it intersects with forest service roads (on the surveyor's ridge trail). My biggest complaint would be the amount of mountain bikers that were zooming down the mountain with not much concern for hikers being around the next corner. Overall it was a pretty good trail and the views of hood at the viewpoint are some of the best I have seen
