cross country skiing
Cross Country skiing paradise on Mt. Hood, open to the public and run by the Teacup Lake Nordic Club. A mellow place with many options for many different skill levels. Best of all, there's a small warming lodge with a small fireplace in the center.
Filtered my search for snowshoeing and this location came up. Could not snowshoe here, was not allowed. But looked awesome for cross country skiing.
Had a great time cross country skiing up here, even if it was in the rain. The trails are maintained mightily, and even a mellow 4.5 mile loop will put a nice burn in your legs.
Click the link under "getting there" and check out the trail maps; there are endless options from easy to difficult for all skill levels. I'll upload a good-sized .jpg of the trail map too.
The day lodge is great for warming up and drying off, and the trails are really well maintained. It's a beautiful place, and--as a rookie--I enjoyed it thoroughly, even while XCin' in the rain.
We love this place--regularly groomed, volunteer-supported, lots of different trails at different levels. We used to go every week but then we found out we could take our dogs to a place just down the highway--not as nice, but we felt bad leaving the little ones home. Still, we are members and will always go back when we don't have the pups.
