Easy hike to two waterfalls in the Santiam Foothills. At Shellburg Falls you can walk behind the waterfall. The Shellburg Falls Recreation Area is located near Lyons, Oregon in the Santiam State Forest and is managed by the Oregon Department of Forestry. It offers a peaceful, secluded recreational experience. Whether you enjoy camping, hiking, mountain biking, equestrian riding, or simply exploring nature, you'll find many things to do and see. It is an easy trail that winds its way through giant Douglas-fir and Hemlock trees and under the Shellburg Falls. There is also a small campground nearby, facilities include picnic tables, fire rings with barbecue grills and restroom facilities. Currently there are four campsites available which are first come first serve. For visitors wanting to escape the crowds and enjoy a quiet camping trip this is an excellent location.
it was great
loved it so peaceful. took my dsughther with me and she was sobpelased with the view and the fall
Stassel Falls is hard to find! This is a great family hike, and for us close to home (by 30 minutes). If you follow the trail and continue straight from the sign pointing to Shellburg Falls for approx .4th of a mile the trail will veer right and there are rocks that outline an unmarked trail. Take the right and for about another .4th of a mile it'll lead to Stassel Falls.
Couldn't find strassel falls. The other two falls were a bit low on water- otherwise a nice little loop.
Being able to walk behind the falls was totally unexpected! It was beautiful but ended up being a lot shorter than expected.
FYI...the trail is closed due to logging. Made the hour trip for nothing.
It was worth it once you got to the falls but the hike to get to the beginning of the trail is uneventful.
nice easy hike
Nice hike through some pastures, my dog freaked out on the first cattle gate. The waterfalls were beautiful, I'll be back in the winter to see them when they are flowing better.
What a great hike this was. Got lost a couple of times but it was worth it. Loved the waterfall. Sitting under it having some lunch was awesome! The only down part was the parking. Very few parking spots. When we got there, there was no spots available. So we went to a park and then went back to check and see if there was any spots and luckily there was one. Everyone we passed by was extremely nice. Can't wait to go back!
One of my favorites.
Great for mountain biking! Awesome single track downhill. Definitely worth doing again.
