Marys Peak Pillow Basalt Trail is a 1.2 mile out and back trail located near Philomath, Oregon that offers the chance to see wildlife and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, birding, and snowshoeing and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

A quick trip off the main road and you'll find ancient ocean floor lava flows. A short hike out takes you to a basalt cliff, the remains of a chunk of former sea floor that forms much of Marys Peak.
Tragically, the bare hillsides have been appropriated as unofficial shooting ranges. The entire trail (not just the hillsides) is littered with detritus from recreational gunfolk, and the noise was inescapable. Obviously no wildlife was present, not even a bird in sight.
This being said, the lookout point might be worth the short walk on a weekday when, hopefully, nobody's shooting.
