Devils Punchbowl State Natural Area Trail is a 1 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Otter Rock, OR that features beautiful wild flowers and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible year-round.
Near Otter Rock explore this geological formation caused when two caves collapsed. Surfers and surf watchers energize this area. During winter storms, water from the restless ocean slams with a thundering roar into a hollow rock formation shaped like a huge punch bowl. The surf churns, foams, and swirls as it mixes a violent brew. The punch bowl was probably created by the collapse of the roof over two sea caves, then shaped by wave action. The park is a popular whale watching site and displays an intriguing geology. This is a scenic picnic spot atop the undulating rocky shoreline. Don't forget to explore the tidepools. Devil's Punch Bowl offers beach access and opportunities for picnicking, hiking, exploring the shoreline, and viewing scenery
The tide was low enough to actually go in it.
Viewpoint with a short trail. Punchbowl is an interesting formation
Not what I would call a "hike" but definitely a sight to see!
we actually saw whales! the punch bowl wasn't spurting water high enough when we went but looked cool.
Great picnic spot!
Fun place to visit often for lunch great view catch the surfers and feed the squirrels
I visited this sea cave during a trip to Oregon. My brother who lives there stopped off as we were travelling up the coast. The location is fenced off for safety and natural preservation. I feel that had I been able to venture down to the water the experience could have been more magical, but I also understand that my life would have been in danger. Picnic tables offer a chance to gaze at the sunset. The sea-side gets very windy and surfers below take advantage of that. Oregon has such a bitchin' coast line; it truely can't be beat.
very cool cliff to view and real nice place for a sunset view
THE TRAIL I FOUND WAS WALKING THE BEACH ON EITHER SIDES OF THE PUNCH BOWL.
THERE ARE SIGNS THAT SAY DANGER TO NOT GO ON OTHER SIDE OF THE GATE ???
BUT THOSE THAT ARE YOUNGER AND ADVENTUROUS ,,, JUST DO IT IF YOU WANT TO EXPERIENCE A BETTER VIEW. BE CAREFUL THOUGH ROCKS ARE SLIPPERY.
ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE FENCE YOU CAN CRAWL UNDER. AND HIKE DOWN THE SIDE. BUT WHEN YOU NEAR THE BOTTOM BE VERY CAREFUL!!! Or you will be sliding the rest of the way down. ALSO SMALL CAVE DoWn at the bottom when its Low tide. :)
