dogs on leash
super easy and family friendly. great short walk after a bike ride.
This is a beautiful easy day hike.
Good. Easy for grandma and the small dog.
The walk to Benham Falls from the small parking lot is very easy. We did it with a toddler in a backpack and two children who are 8 and 10.
There are others using the wide trail and I didn't find it bothersome or too many people, but we went during the middle of the week on an overcast day. There are dogs who are off leash and I'm not sure what the laws are in Sunriver about dogs off leash, but it's something to be aware of if you like to hike with your dogs.
As you get nearer and nearer to the falls, you begin to hear them through the trees. Nothing, and I do mean nothing, can prepare you for what you are about to see.
While they aren't your typical "falls" (more like rapids), the sheer power of this bend in the Deschutes, will take your breath away.
One word of warning: you can stand right on the edge of the rapids that make Benham Falls. I would highly encourage you to keep a close eye on your children here. There is a very high likelihood that if someone were to fall in here, they would die.
Relaxing, calming hike next to a river. Forest hikers and runners abound.
A must for insect repellent and they eat thru Clothes but loved the hike
Great hike easy and great views. Lots of mt bikers, my dog love the trail but Duke thinks there more River access, think the miles maybe off longer than it says
Easy out-and-back day hike, with one mile, three mile and several longer options, should you decide to make it a longer hike. Beautiful scenery the entire way, including lava flows, forests, and of course waterfalls!
Great space to walk in. Is quite popular and can be a bit crowded. The falls are quite nice. Very relaxing. Good place for hikers of all ages. When we were there, a bus load of "mature" hikers came out. We spoke to them for a while and they were loving being out for a bit of exercise.
Very buggy $5 fee for day use
One of my favorites! Great views of the river. Nice variety in plants, terrain and birds.
Part of the Deschutes River Trail. Good for everyone. Beautiful and close to town.
