Southwoods Trail is a 1.4 mile out and back trail located near Goshen, Ohio that offers scenic views and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is accessible year-round.
Directions from Milford, OH: Travel east on State Route 131 for 8 miles. Bear left on SR 727 and proceed 3 miles to the park entrance. Southwoods Trail is accessible southeast of the campground check-in station or along Lake Drive at the terminus of Lakeview Trail.
Quick n easy. Secluded enough that no one else was on the trail.
A very short and easy trail however in the wetter seasons it's very muddy. There were several areas with trees down over the trail that had yet to be cleared but even the 6 year old we had with us was able to navigate around them.
This trail is really just a connector joining the Beechtree and Lakeview trails with the Red Fox trail. If you just hike this trail as an out-and-back it is 1.6 miles; however, by combining this with the Red Fox trail (2 mile loop) you can get in 3.6 miles. The whole hike is wooded and for the most scenic experience a fall hike is my choice.
This is a very easy hike with no real hills to speak of other than a brief dip down to one of the small creeks flowing into Stonelick lake (maybe 50 feet down and back up, if that).
This is a short, sweet trail with few travelers. If you want to be alone in nature, this a decent place to start.
