Conkle's Hollow Gorge Trail is a 1.2 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Rockbridge, OH that features a waterfall and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible from April until November.
Beautiful trail overlooking a gorge. There is a 2.5 mile trail around the outside of the gorge. There is also a cement trail the goes out and back inside the gorge. The rim trail often traverses very close to the cliff edge. Parents should be careful with children
the boys and I did this early spring 2016. Lots of ice formations along the cliffs but it was still very green, it had a magical feel the boys loved it despite the cold and wind.
Very nice, even in the winter.
One if my favorites.
Beautiful views. It was raining so we only did the lower gorge hike. Safe and handicap accessible walkway until very end where walkway ends and you navigate across small creek and some uneven terrain to reach waterfall. Truly a breathtaking area and worth the travel time. I want to return to do the upper gorge section soon.
Great accessible trail in the gorge. A great, easy walk during a hot summer day, as it's cool and damp under all the hemlock trees.
I felt like I was in a jungle while in the gorge. The rim trail was scenic. Like others has stated, it can be very dangerous for small children. This was my favorite hike at Hocking Hills despite Old Man cave trail being longer and Ash caves such a spectacle.
This was a fun hike. Very pretty. Great views. Not safe for small children. Deadly drop offs. Took me about 2.5 hours very casually to make it all the way through as there is multiple spots that you just want to sit and look at the views. Cell phone receptions in this area is poor. Hike safe
The lower trail, within the hollow, is a scenic stroll without elevation change. Most of the trail is a sidewalk. Would probably be very nice after rain so the waterfalls would have lots of volume.
Grew up in the area. This trail is a must-see for visitors to the HH's. 2.5 mile trail round trip that snakes its way around the hollow. A lot of times, especially on the eastern wall, the trail gets VERY close to the edge. Wouldn't recommend this trail for children or pets (pets prohibited anyways). While you're there, you might as well check out the lower trial also. The finish of it is a real treat as it finishes inside the hollow.
-Simple trail; no need for markings
-Great updated literature that is posted and maintained by the State.
-less popular as it is about 15 miles from the very popular Old Mans Cave. In fact, if you're coming from Columbus, it can serve as a first stop. Less popular=less crowded.
-When it has rained recently, this trail tends to get very muddy which leaves you the decision to trodge through it or find a way to sneak past, all while the edge of the cliff is waiting just a few feet away.
-Trail very close to cliff (I don't consider this a "con" but families/parents with small children may)
We hiked the rim trail clockwise from the parking lot. It was the best hike of the day and I would love to go back and do it again sometime! Gorgeous views all around the trail.
The scenery here is gorgeous!! This is a must trail if visiting Hocking Hills. The views on the rim trail are ones you will never forget.
Beautiful hike and views, a little muddy in mid spring. Nice drive from Columbus, will definitely be on my list of favorites. I didn't check out the paved path on the lower trail, but the upper loop is great.
Lots of stairs to the top and steep decent down but the stuff in the middle was wonderful. Plenty of places to stop and take in the views. Was not overcrowded but it is only April. Still ice chunks near falls.
