Yancy Ridge is a 8 mile loop trail located near Collettsville, NC and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for mountain biking and is accessible year-round.
This trail makes a great mountain biking loop, and has been here forever. Access it at Roseborough and the MST. Follow the MST and FR-192 for the first few climbing miles too the top. Gragg Prong creek is on your left, and Old House Gap is at the top. The road can be tricky, with lots of rocks and gullys to negotiate. At Old House Gap, the trail splits and goes right. (FR 4062). The MST goes left to Beacon Heights, while FR-192 turns into a normal gravel road and goes to Gragg. On the main trail, 4062 starts going downhill, with some great views of Roseborough and Lost Cove. There are offshutes, but they basically lead to fields. The trail gets technical, and goes to a junction. The Yancey Ridge trail (FR-4062) goes straight, and eventually goes to Edgemont and gravel road 982. That is the outer loop. If you want to ride on to Globe, after 1.1 miles along Yancey Ridge PAST THE 451 JUNCTION) take a switchback trail through Wilson Creek and to Woodruff Branch (Bill Crump Tr.) Also at this junction, FR-451 turns sharp right and goes to Roseborough. Take this route to complete your loop. This route is now a road used for hunting (September- December), and it reached the main gravel road in around 2.5 miles. Turn right on the gravel road (FR-982) and follow it downhill and back to your car. Enjoy this very scenic and technical loop!
