Thompson Loop is a 7 mile moderately trafficked loop trail located near Bryson City, North Carolina and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for mountain biking and is accessible year-round.
Great trail. Ms. Awesome did really well.
Great trail to really move on. The climbs are not so steep, and the downhills are long. Plenty of roots and rocks, but enjoy the open woods and the tight coves.
The shortest trail at Tsali but don't let that deter you. It has some fun, fast sections. If you're riding a hard tail get ready to have your bones rattled near the end: it's fast and bumpy. Be ready on the brakes too, you get spit out onto the gravel road where you started before you know it.
This is my favorite trail of the four in the Tsali area. The trail is accessible from the Tsali Campground and offers a little bit of everything. Pay your trail fee ($2.00) at the Left/Right Loop trail head and then head across the campground access road to access the Thompson Loop and Mouse Loop trails. The trail features rolling terrain, creek crossings and a few extended climbs to get the legs burning. A few of the creek crossing are quite rocky, so make sure you are in an easy gear in order to be able to carry enough pedal speed and momentum. The loop is capped of with a mile-long decent to the trail head which is a blast. There is no better reward after a long climb than being able to bomb the final decent.
