I love this place! Great slopes with various difficulties and a large area for plenty to explore. I would love to come back and ski again next winter!
A tough but enjoyable hike up the Sugar Mountain ski slopes. Parking is available at the base lodge and a short walk up and around the lodge brings you to the grassy slope area. The incline begins gradually becoming steeper as you go. When nearing the top veer right, taking Switchback to reach the summit without having to scramble up Tom Terrific (black diamond slope.) From the top enjoy fabulous views of the beautiful High Country. Search for a small trail that leads through the woods over the ridge to gain another excellent vantage point. Sit on the jutting rocks and take in the epic view with mountain tops rolling out for miles and miles.
Had a great time hiking to the summit after work ... walked up the slopes and got off a bit onto the mountain biking trails... but they were a little rough in some places. At the top you can see they are clearing for new ski trails and then at the top make sure and look for a trail that leads through a forest to the very top. What amazing views... took up about 3 hours as we stopped and chatted and talk to several hikers on the way. Got some great photos... steep slopes in some place... all up hill and all down hill so a good workout.
This is certainly an all-around great ski mountain. During the winter, I visit here regularly to ski and enjoy the snow. Lots of easy bunny hills for the children, and Whoopdedoo for the daredevils. Longest run in the area, but that also means a long chairlift ride to the top! Big Red is also a great wide run; ski races are held there. Don't forget- the mountain also offers snowshoeing, tubing and snowboarding during the winter season also. During the summer, the Sugar allows mountain biking, with some races held here also. These trails are very technical, and test even the hardiest biker. Certainly, a great mountain year-round.
I skied here a week ago and there was a lot of snow. Came back and found it full of bare spots and closed.
I live to snowboard. This slope is the most expensive and has the most rules, but it's the highest mountain and has the longest runs around these parts. Additionally, their slopes are very well-kept.
Go here in July, August and hit some of the best Mountain Biking you will find! Take the lift up and bomb down! Dont bring a hardtail, your vision will be blurred for days! Bring an extra set of brake pads too! I have skied here too but the MB is more fun!
Have not been here in the winter but we hiked up the lift trail and all over and around the ski trails on the way down. They say there is a cave towards the top but we didn't see it. It was a fun day of hiking. Good views from the top!
This may be great for skiing but also in the summer you can take the ski lift up to the top with your mountain bike and bike down through some of the best trails...Had a blast!
