Gated access. Passes which open the gate are purchased at NC Botanical Gardens, Chapel Hill. Obscure path to the gate and through roads, then ford stream, then park, then walk. Research/Reserve. No bikes. Just easy walking and observing.
A permit from the NC Botanical Garden is required to visit this preserve. Access to the parking lot involves first crossing a stream that may not be passable at times.
Two miles of pedestrian trails that wind near creek. Forest Theater is very cool. Was there on a Saturday afternoon and only saw two people. Very nice leisurely walk with my dog. Quiet in the heart of Chapel Hill.
This little reserve is a birding gem set not even a mile from downtown Chapel Hill. Go early and bring your binoculars for this one. It's very seldom used except on the weekends and provides a nice sanctuary for those seeking to connect with nature.
