Vast variety of trails, beautiful lake, outstanding river If you have never been to DuPont State Forest or even if you have, you will need a map. There are a maze of trails here, I like this hike for the solitude of the lake. There are several different combinations of trails that can be used to get here. I took trail 9 ( Buck Forest Rd.) over the covered bridge to trail 19 (Conservation Rd.) then added a little difficulty by taking trail 64 (Pitch Pine Trail, rated mod.) to trail 48 (Lake Dense Trail). This is a beautiful spot and if you go early you can have the place to yourself. There is an added bonus of another small lake past Lake Dense that I did not put on this review purposely. It is much smaller and is on the DuPont S.F. map but not on these here. Check it out. The aquatic life is abundant there. Hope you enjoy this one as much as I did. See you on the trail!!!
This is part of DuPont Forest and on my way to Bridal Veil Falls. I'm not sure what a former reviewer was talking about, but the easier way to Dense Lake is main parking lot by High Falls. It's not a long hike taking Joanna Road. I personally don't like hiking 30minutes on gravel, so took Pitch Pine Trail right after getting on Conservation Rd. from the Covered Bridge. Love this trail, quiet and peaceful. PItch Pine weaves around and leads to Joanna Rd and Triple Lake Trail (Dense Lake)
There is no access to lake dense. The palmetto bible camp has the only access to the lake, which is private property. The only trail that's accessible to the public is falls creek falls trail, which is very strenuous. And this trail is right outside of jones gap park, about 40 minutes from greenville sc.
