Park Office was closed when I attended, and the bathrooms at the picnic area were not the greatest, but the hike was awesome and there are excellent views from the top.
This is a nicely graded, well maintained hike to awesome views. Leaves have just started to change.
A great hike, decent incline, a little steep in parts. Gorgeous views at the top. Can't wait to do it again.
Great for a short hike with the dog. It's an easy hike on a well maintained trail but definitely will bring your heart rate up a notch due to the slope.
Best maintained trail I've been on. Views at the top are great!
This beautifully maintained trail is worth the effort. The views are amazing.
Beautiful views!! Very much worth the drive and the hike. This trail is actually called the "summit trail" on the park map. Not ever being there I was confused with this, actually trying to find the "elk knob trail". The trail itself was very narrow, it could use some expansion, especially with how populated it is and with dogs being allowed. That being said, amazing hike! Will definitely be back. Also, there is no charge to get into this state park and it had the cleanest outdoor bathroom I had ever been in.
Views from the top are spectacular. Well worth the effort.

Nicely maintained trail. 1.9 miles to the top of a 5520 foot view on north side and south side. I like the south side view better (plus a good sunset spot). The trail can get a little steep and is mostly gravel to some larger rocks. Beautiful vegetation and flowers.
This well-maintained trail was a lot of fun for my whole family including a five and eight year old. There an overlook about half way up where the little ones could rest before reaching the summit which has two separate scenic overlooks. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the park was very clean.
We did the summit trail yesterday
Weather was great views were awesome.
This is not a difficult trail at all.
At the one mile point there is a great view.
Worth the walk all by itself
Not mentioned was the other trails in the park the visitors center and picnic areas
A hidden gem
A very well maintained switchback trail to the top. I consider it a pretty steep climb through open hardwood forest. Excellent views at the top, but could easily get crowded at the north viewing area.
So happy to have found this little gem! Was a perfect day from start to finish. We went on the 4th of July, cooked out at the cozy picnic area (there's a main section grouped together, plus individual tables tucked into the woods, all accessible from one parking lot). Somehow we were the only people in that entire section! What a treat that was. At the actual trailhead parking lot, it was MAYBE 1/5 full if that. We headed up the summit trail and it was exactly as described. Beautiful smooth trail with VERY few obstacles. The switchbacks were great, kept the trail from being so steep, unlike most others we've hiked. I've never seen such a nice mix of hikers from 70+ year old couples to families with young kids and many with dogs. I was probably the most winded of them all, and that's because I'm hideously out of shape! Of course any time you're hiking nearly 1000 feet at an elevation like that it will be a nice workout, but not at all unpleasant. When we got to the top we had the place to ourselves for probably 20+ minutes, enjoyed the spectacular views, flowers, birds and butterflies. Towards the end we were able to shoot some great time-lapse videos of the clouds rolling in, eventually enveloping the whole summit...much to the dismay of the folks who came up shortly after! Down was a BREEZE. Unlike some trails that are so steep and/or rocky, you can jog down most of it with the nice momentum of the slope. Hurry up and try this one out while it's still less-traveled! Park Ranger was super sweet and helpful too.
Moderately steep switchback trail. Fantastic views at peak. Beautiful trilliums in season.
Excellent trail with north and south views from the summit. Not too strenuous and well worth it.
