AT Newfound Gap/Low Gap is a 25.5 mile point-to-point trail located near Cherokee, North Carolina and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is best used from June until November.
Enjoy open vista views while hiking the crest of the Appalachian Mtns Your hike will begin along the most popular traveled section of the AT in the GSMNP to Charlies Bunion.First day hike of 3 mi & 1244' gain will end at Icewater Springs Shelter.Once you roll out your sleeping bag backtrack to the Blvd. Trail and dayhike to Jumpoff for great views.Day 2 will gain 4644' over the 12 mi hike to Tri-Corner Knob Shelter.Pecks Corner Shelter is halfway and will provide a good break for lunch.You will bag two peaks of 6K' at Mt. Sequoyah & Mt. Chapman.Tri-Corner was to be determined to be the most remote location in TN and you will feel it at this shelter, it maybe just you and the bears here tonight.Day 3's hike of 10.6 mi and 2030' gain will be started by climbing Mt Guyot and Old Black two more peaks of 6K' but after that just rolls up and down to Cosby Knob your last ascend before connecting to Low Gap Trail and descending into Cosby.Low Gap Trail is a wide trail that follows Cosby Creek back to the Cosby Campground to the hiker parking.
