great little hostel in town after a good bit of decently easy trail. Highly recommend checking out Gooder Grove hostel in Franklin North Carolina if in town.

I have hiked this section as part of a longer section hike on the Appalachian Trail. A fun, rugged hike. I took my wife (who is not a hiker) on just a section of this trail, starting at Wayah Road and hiking South to Winding stair gap. This was about 6 miles and included a side trail to Siler Bald which has a truly amazing view (on a clear day). Anyway, if you want a shorter day hike that is a challenge, but not too bad, you can do the shorter (about 6 miles) section from Wayah Road to Winding Stair Gap.

i did the trail up to siler bald. this is a great hike with quite a few level and scenic sections along the way. i started off with a nice waterfall then hugged the east side of panther knob up to the gap. took a break there and the trail then passed over to the west side of the ridge and stayed that way until snowbird gap. by then the elevation was over 5000 feet and still climbing up to the mile high siler bald. i had lunch at the top and could see the blue waters of nantahala lake to the northwest. i headed back to winding stair gap and passed over a dozen northbound hikers.

my bro in law and I just did Winding Stair Gap up to the NOC in 2 days and it was an amazing trek on the AT. sections were difficult but the views from the fire towers, Siler bald and all the others made it worth it. now doing 30 miles in 2 days is a bit ambitious, def recommend stretching it over 3 days as apposed to 2. all in all an amazing trip.

A good in and out hike. Nice views. Some fallen trees. Feet got wet since recent rains created a lot of streaming water. Including a side trip to Siler Bald, the hike totaled 23.97 miles from the parking lot and back.

We couldn't find the trail head and we were using this app. The parking area was decent, only could hold a few cars. We were the only ones there. But the worst detractor was that the temp dropped down to 40 from 55-where we began the drive up the mountain and the wind was at least 15 mph per weather app.

So this is a 10.1 mile hike from hwy 64 all the way up to the lookout tower on Wayah Bald? I've read some other places its only 6 miles put that just might be to the road that leads up to the tower. Any help would be appreciated.

Love this "go to" trail that we do almost monthly to see the changes=from the huge amounts of duchmens breaches in the spring, to the may flame azelias in June to the views of the colors of fall and the silnce of winter. The view from Siler is worth the .2 of straight up. Want to feel small? I reccomend this hike
