The Escarpment Trail is a 4.2 mile heavily trafficked loop trail located near Tannersville, New York that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from May until October.
TOTALLY STUNNING. A good portion of the trail runs at the edge of the valley and so the views are incredible with a bunch of overlooks so you can really enjoy it. North-South Lake can get pretty crowded but this is one of the outer trails so you avoid a lot of the campground traffic. The trail system in the North-South Lake area is really extensive so there's a lot to see and a lot of routes you can take. It's also only about ten minutes from my favorite place in Tannersville: Twin Peaks doughnuts! Just writing about this hike is making me want to do it again so I would definitely recommend it!
Super pretty, great views, nice balance of ups and downs. Pretty evergreens, which was nice since most trees still had no leaves on them. Crosses a very nice creek as well. Great details about the route at http://www.nynjtc.org/hike/catskill-escarpment-trail
Hiked the section on a fall day near peak color starting at the intersection of North Lake Road & Scutt Road. Walked to Sunset Rock, Inspiration Point & located the ruins of the Kaaterskill Hotel with the help of 3 experienced local hikers. Very easy walk, fantastic views. Just be careful as the trail is narrow in spots with steep dropoffs.
Prolly gonna do this one soon. Negative lonely woman spoke highly of it. She had a cool look though.
Hiked the Arca Point portion of this trail. Steeper in some points than most mention, however, this was a great trail to get back into the hiking after close to a 10 year absence. I brought my dog along for the trek and she did great for her first outing. Trail is well maintained; cut just enough to get by without making it look over used or over groomed. This trail has great vistas and past only a hand full fellow travelers. Planning on looping to the Batavia Kill portion next time to complete the loop.
Such a great trail! Steady inclines with amazing scenery and just enough rock scrambling to make it interesting ...not to mention an outhouse in just the right spot! Great hike!
