nice hike with family. lots of nice scenery.
Was staying at a nearby hotel for work and hiked the park two weekends in a row. The gorge trail which follows the brook is really awesome and there are some great views. Quick and easy hiking, very enjoyable.
Took the east rim trail and looped around back through the west rim trail. Unfortunately the gorge trail wasn't open. That gives us a reason to come back though. The rim trails provided great views of the gorge on both sides. The hike is uphill for the most part on both trails. Looping from the east trail to the west trail was a little confusing as there were multiple paths you could take and no signs. We figured it out eventually after back tracking. This is the only reason it is a 3 and not a 4 to me.
trails are kept clear, family and dog friendly.
Stayed at Stony Brook while traveling through New York to see Niagara Falls and honestly I enjoyed this trail more than I enjoyed Niagara Falls. Each of the 9 is individually beautiful and the whole area is a lush hardwood forest.
A moderate 2.5 mile loop starting from the main parking lot taking the west rim trail which quickly has a 210ft gain in elevation. Connect to the gorge trail which hugs stony brook with several bridges, passing waterfalls and swimming area, ending back at the main parking lot.
I am surprised there is only one review other than mine, this place is beautiful!
A great place to hike and spend time with family and loved ones. It has lovely trails, from easy to moderate. Also, the most beautiful river system runs through this awesome park as well. It has numerous areas for picnics and family gatherings, and even a play ground for the kids. You should go check it out. We loved it.
I was pleasantly surprised at how beautiful these trails were - we hiked the East Rim trail and the Gorge Trail all in one day which was pretty easy to moderate and about 3.6 miles total. My dog loved it too!
This is a very pretty trail to hike. The waterfalls are beautiful and there are places you can actually go in the water legally. There's a section that they dam off during certain times of the year, so the water rises and it looks like a natural inground swimming pool. They have lifeguards on duty. The depth goes from 2 feet to 8 feet. We walked up the gorge trail and took the west rim trail back. Both trails had some steep locations, so keep that in mind. We walked up the gorge and figured the west rim trail back would obviously be downhill. It doesn't work that way, the west rim trail going back still had some steep areas. If you want an easier way back, I would suggest just turning around and take the gorge trail back. Overall, it's a very tranquil and beautiful place to hike.
Such a fun place to spend the day!
Nice loop hike with plenty of water falls and swimming holes. Family freindly (even for young children) If you plan on swimming bring water shoes or simply walk the creek bed.
Great trail. A ton of elevation changes so it truely tests the legs (esp the stairs). My 6 year old made it around both sides (full loop) so its def doable with younger children. We had to pay attention to the west rim in regards to the dig cause the stairs do get a little narrow but other than that a very enjoyable family experience!
Beautiful setting and wonderful trail!
I hiked this a few months ago, and i have to say i loved it, some really nice waterfalls. It didnt seem enough to me to be in the strenuous category, however the stairs being longer, unorthodox stairs, could be the difference.
