Only hiked to the mud lake leanto and camped. It's not right on the lake and the water had a lot of vegetation on its edges, definitely worthy of the name mud lake! It was a steep incline for most of the hike. There were nice pictures to take but definitely not the greatest I've seen. If I do it again I would try the other leanto or hiking further in, it looks like it is more appealing.

My wife and I did an overnight at the Silver Lake lean to last weekend. It was a 7.5 mile hike and her very first backpacking trip. This part of the trail is either the very beginning or the very end (depending on which way you are traveling) of the Northville Placid Trail.
There are many creeks and stream crossings and you spend a bit walking next to water.

The lean to is very nice and well kept but unfortunately it's up, away from the lake so you do not get to experience any great views of Silver Lake. There is water access and it made for good swimming. The lean to had a rake, a shovel and even a fire grate.
