Silver Lake Preserve Trail is a 1.6 mile loop trail located near West Harrison, New York and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is accessible year-round. Dogs are also able to use this trail.
The trails are well established, though not well marked. There are several logs across the trail, but they can be navigated over or under. Some parts are steep, but have flat rock steps to form a natural staircase.
really liked this trail. easy to follow
This is a great place to hike very close to the city. You can go past the lake and see the rock formations as well as remnants of old houses\fireplaces. Lots of history here(revolutionary war battle ground). A great variety or terrain and not difficult to navigate at all.
Silver Lake Trail has the potential to be a beautiful park but it is largely forgotten by the Westchester Co. government. Large trees have fallen on just about every trail making for an initially fun experience but eventually becomes tedious. Trails are not well marked and suddenly disappear. My recent hike devolved into romping through unblazed forest up and down large rock outcroppings. Geology and history of the park are fascinating but not widely appreciated by the Parks Dept..
The lake is pretty. The trails are tricky to locate, but once you get on one, they are marked. Along the trail are plaquards noting historical significance. There is quite a bit if debris blocking the trail, but can be easily stepped over or under.
More of a picnic ground than a hike. Blight. Could be cleaner. Nice lake. It would be much better cleaned up & quieted down. It's very pretty.
the hike is around a park so you get a lot of noise however still some great views of the lake and some peaceful moments by the stream. a lot of fallen trees which make for a lot of fun but not well maintained and a lot of garbage on the ground.
Beautiful views of the lake however too many gym balls, garbage in the water and on the trail. A shame because the trail has many great features, such as a variety of trails, stepping stones, and trees to climb over and under. Enjoy the ups and downs!!!
