Sacandaga River Whitewater Route is a 3.3 mile moderately trafficked point-to-point trail located near Hadley, New York that features a waterfall and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from April until October.
The top section of the Sacandaga offers boaters a variety of routes. Far river left has the least difficult water with many opportunities to practice left eddy turns. There are several large rocks to the right of river left which provide powerful eddy lines and holes for boaters to practice big volume eddy entrances and exits. The middle of the river offers big, fast water with holes and drops to maneuver around. River right leads quickly to the biggest hole and surf wave on the river. Here the most skilled paddlers wait their turn to either surf the top wave or to pop an ender in the hole directly below the wave. It is a great place to practice the combat rolls necessary for all but the most skilled surfers.
Have done this many times in tubes. Last outing I actually put a small pinhole in my tube that I had to hold plugged the entire way and still made it easily. Great times. Will def return.
An absolute blast. The trip was quick, but was packed with excitement and a lot of whitewater. With the right setup you could very easily run the river a couple of times during one release. Would recommend for all.
