All very mellow trails with some great views of the Catskills and the Rip Van Winkle bridge. A great chill hike post-Olana museum or if you're just looking to stretch your legs and live nearby.

The trails are actually available for hiking in the winter as well. They are short, but nice. Winter may actually be a better time to go because the leaves on the treas would block the views. Unfortunately the tour of the house only covers the first floor.

If you drive up to the top past the castle there's a parking lot. Park and go down to the right on a short simple trail. Many beautiful views of the Hudson River. Great place for a picnic and doing some water color painting

There are some really nice views of the Hudson River (mainly Catskills, NY) from the main deck of the Olana building. The Indian architecture is very intriguing and the colors look twice as radiant during a sunset. I also really enjoyed the small garden on the side. The trail is a pleasant walk that goes from the main buildings, past the garden leading into the woods by a pond area (looping back to the parking lot).
Con(s): I didn't like the extra fees leading p to the Olana site (there is only one possible bridge that visitors have to drive from and there is a fee for that, including the extra parking fee, and the additional Main floor or supplement floor tickets. A bit necessary (there are other beautiful historic areas around the Hudson counties that are free). So I suggest going past 5 and only paying for the bridge.

This old queen from the city was like "I can't believe you haven't been to Olana" talkin bout those romantic transcendentalists. I'm all....yeah. I like that sunset.

I noticed this "trail" only 4 miles away from home and decided to check it out. Only one problem. The directions to the trail head was over a mile away from Olana. Not to mention it was ALL residential and no trail in sight. The residents even said that there was no trails anywhere nearby. Inside Olana there was a few trails. The only one that even came close to this description was the pond side trail. This trail listing really needs to be revamped to have an honest trail head and trail log. It is a beautiful area and I really hope that this listing gets fixed to what it should be.

Beautiful historic site! Great fun for all ages. The house is amazing from the outside, and I can't wait to tour the inside! Trails are well maintained and views are outstanding. We've gone in late January 2012 & April 2012. Fall would be beautiful. Check for ticks!!!

I couldn't find this trail. So instead I hiked at Olana St Historic Park, home of famous Hudson River artist Frederic Church and his beautiful moorish castle style home with the panoramic view of the Hudson. I hiked around the lake which has a trail on one side. - Brad
