This is a short hike up to some great overlooks over both Moreau Lake to the east and the Hudson River to the west This is an easy hike appropriate for young children or older parents to get them out into the woods for some nice views. The overlook is on Palmertown Mountain.
Nice, easy hike with decent views of Moreau Lake and mountains to the east. Park as a lot of connecting trails of varying degrees of difficulty and nice views.
Not so easy. We were nearby and thought we'd introduce my Autistic son to hiking with this trail. While some parts were easy, there were sections of steep slopes covered in rocks that were difficult at times. The. View at the top is worth the struggle. It's a great workout and one woman we met on the trail uses it to train for high peaks hikes.
Good trail for a more leisurely walk rather than a hike, dogs often come across some on leashes some not so keep it in mind
Very pretty and shady. Rocky terrain ascent may make it difficult for some. Overlook at top is lovely.
One note - note everyone observes the leashed pet laws, making it an annoyance & potential hazard when traversing the trail.
At the top of the overlook it would be nice if groups who hike and gather at this lookout point be mindful of others seeking respite in nature. The volume level of a group there was such that you could hear them well before and after the approach. Unfortunately on the way down, listening to them as they descended as their children ran ahead unaccompanied made it a waste of seeking communing with nature.
Please be mindful of your pets and surroundings so that all may escape the stress of the business week on the weekends around the lake
This was NOT an easy hike. We took the red trail which started off easy next to the lake and then climbed up precipitously till it met the blue trail to the overlook. It took us 1.5 hrs to climb up. Wear sturdy hiking shoes as there are many roots and rocks to navigate over. Don't do this on a hot day or with elderly parents!
