There are numerous well marked trails through this pristeen forest.
This is a pretty flat easy trail. The view from the fire tower is beautiful. I saw an eagle flying over the fields below. At one point it became pretty buggy, but it was a warm muggy day.
Fire tower makes this walk really fun. Took about 15 minutes to get to fire tower on a nice forest path. Remainder of walk took about 30 minutes. Trail got a bit narrow towards end of loop so that it was a little bothersome to have my dog on a leash.
Nice easy walk to the tower with an awesome view recommend this for family fun kid friendly
I love the fire tower views, but this spot is beyond buggy, every single time I've gone. This is with good bug spray too!
A little buggy, but a nice walk to the fire tower. The markers for the green trail are sparse...
Nice relaxing hike. Alot of people though but it was a Sunday. Fire tower was pretty cool. Trails were all well maintained and well marked.
A really great little area. A quick hike nets access to the firetower that is open and affords some beautiful views. We followed some of the mtn bike trails back, adding distance and slightly more technical hiking.
There are a number of poorly marked trails in the preserve, but it is tough to get lost in such a small area. The view from the fire tower is nice, but it is the only vantage point in the preserve allowing for a view above the foliage.
It was beautiful. I would bring some mosquito spray next time though.
A 10 minute walk in the woods that lead to a super awesome fire~tower. The inside of the fire tower is very imaginatively decorated by (what I'm guessing are the college students close by) that also like spending time there. It has a very cozy feeling to it and a very beautiful view of the hudson river, poet's walk, and the areas surrounding it. We sat inside and waited for the sunset and watched in awe as the clouds became color splashed with different intensities of pinks and purples.
It's a super easy hike! So easy that I want to take my grandparents along next time to show them around the area that we live in now.
Wow, what a nice short hike to the tower! Never knew there was a tower until I did some real searching online. Glad I found this magical place!!
I did this hike in the fall of 2013. It's a great little hike. It's a simple loop with a high fire tower at the halfway point which gives you an amazing 360 view of the Hudson and Catskills. It made the hike for me. It's very high, narrow and can be windy so if you are afraid of heights you may want to find something else. There was a surprising amount of wildlife . I saw several deer, and I almost stepped on a snake by the pond.
It's five minutes from the historic town of Rhinebeck which is a beautiful town with plenty of history and a number of fine places to eat. It's certainly worth a visit.
Super simple trail- we were actually looking for something more strenuous, but it was still fun. Make sure to climb the fire-tower and look for the gorgeous barn.
Nice little place, MAKE SURE YOU GET YOUR CAMPING PERMIT BEFORE CAMPING HERE! they are free and can be found on the website for this trail. The trails could be better marked and the trail map provided at the entrance is slightly confusing. This area offers plenty of camp sites including a cabin with a fire place and several well maintained lean to's. Fun hike and camp trip!
An easy walk. The tower will probably be the focal point but don't overlook the signs of wildlife. If you look carefully, you will see a beaver dam and lodge on the south end of the pond. There are many deer signs and a good chance that you may see a few if you are quiet. An excellent walk if you just have an hour or two on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon.
Great all purpose trail. Loved going up fire tower and looking at beautiful view of the Hudson. App says it's easy, but there are some significant inclines. Lots of lean-tos and well marked trails.
Nice easy walking trails, with the exception of a steep incline in the beginning, but ok if you take your time.Bring your own H2O or beverage and food as there is none available. Take out what you take in. (no recepticles)Several nice lean toos and tables and fire places. No rest rooms available.About a 30 minute walk to the fire tower.(well worth the effort)Ran into several other hikers, that were very friendly.Really a undiscovered gem.If you enjoy pristeen hard wood and pine forrests hikes.
