Cranberry Bog, Long Island is a 1.1 mile out and back trail located near Riverhead, New York and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and walking and is accessible year-round.
Feels very secluded and private. Beautiful in the fall. Trails easy to follow; beware of "bridge" which is in total disrepair preventing the main trail from being a loop.
Very pretty trail. Short loop around, maybe 20-30 minutes. BUT BE WARY of ticks. There are a lot of ticks on the East end of LI, Riverhead especially. Lyme's disease is very serious. Take a shower when you get home and check yourself.
A lovely easy trail, this was an actual working Cranberry Bog until the late 1950's. Suffolk County has done a great job keeping the preserve intact. Some many trees and native wildlife. When you go be sure to bring bug replant as this area at certain times of the year have a lot of mosquitoes. No pets allowed :(
