Very short (0.4 each way) but enjoyable trail through woods and then up onto a rocky outcrop with a nice view. Great hike for kids - streams to enjoy, woods and a very fun rock scrammble with a rope to help you up. The views are great for such a short hike.
Great family hike!
This was a nice walk. The steep trail was a little more then I expected but still very fun and doable. Beautiful view at top. Lovely lake views on return.
The entire family did this hike last summer. It was a bit steep at some parts for some of the older folk. Also, parts of it were very muddy. I was glad I had my hiking boots on instead of my trail sneakers. The view from the top was awesome for such a short hike. On the way back down, it started raining and the group split up as some of us ran back to the cars. Mom somehow took a wrong turn and was lost for a little while. It was actually quite frightening but a little while later she came walking up the road that we had parked on saying she ended up in a neighborhood down the street! So be careful to stay on the trail ! Other than the scare it was a fun, short hike good for the entire family !
Pretty easy and quick hike. Nice view. Great warm up for the season. A little hard to find based on directions. All you have to do is pull into North wood school and there is a sign and parking lot right there. :)
The steeper trail was a bit of a challenge in the snow and ice but worth it. We went back on the easy trail which would be better for beginners.
Not the easiest trailhead to find as it is off a private road. From Mirror Lake Drive the trail head is 50 yards up Mt Whitney Way on the right. It's marked with no parking signs! A longer walk from Lake Placid Main St via Northwood and Cobble Hill Rds gets you to Terrance Way another private road. The trail is 150 yards up Terrance way on the left. This trail takes you back towards the Mt Whitney way trailhead.
Great hike. Steep trail was challenging for the girls (8 and 10) but they were happy they did it.
This was a short but challenging trail. The view at the top was worth the climb! Would do it again next time in Lake Placid!
Great little trail. Good for "easy" and "moderate" hikers. The easy trail is 1 mile, the moderate .4 with a steep incline. Great view from the top!
Amazing view for the short climb! Once you get to the top find the secret little trail that has a nice view of Whiteface and few of the high peaks!
Easy Hike with loop option which was nice.
