This is a wonderful hike into a beautiful cliff-lined alpine lake deep in the heart of the Adirondack High Peaks Region This is a wonderful hike from Adirondack Loj to Avalanche Lake in between Mt. Colden and Algonquin. You'll climb along ladders and bridges bolted directly to the cliff walls around the lake. The views up the slides and trapdike towards the top of Colden are incredible.

Beautiful trail. First trail I completed in the Adirondacks and it stole my heart. Took some time to swim in the lake. Very cold in early June but well worth it. Not a terribly difficult hike but worth it!

This is rated hard, but as far as ADK trails go it is not hard. Absolutely beautiful though. Hope to climb the trap dike to Colden someday.

Went through from an overnight at Marcy Dam on our way to Algonquin. A great area, the bridges and ladders only add to the fun in this area. Will definitely be going back again.

Hiked in for an overnight in early June with a 16 month old and a 9 year old. Made it just past Marcy dam. Awesome trail, friendly people, mutant hungry black flies and mosquitos. Too much for the kids so we humped it outta there and spent the night at the Comfort Inn Plattsburgh. Definitely going back when the flies aren't so hungry. Bug dope didn't help.

This trail is difficult, steep, and utterly amazing. So rewarding. Breathtaking sights. The avalanche debris, Mt. Colden, the lake--all are incredibly beautiful and awestriking. Worth it.

Everything you want in a challenging hike. The widow's walk around Avalanche lake and March Dam are highlights. As is the actual avalanche debris.

This was an amazing trail. Although we had a miseable rainy day, the views of the trap dike and mt. Colden were amazing. I recomed this trail to people who enjoy climbing largish rocks, and hiking with views.

This hike through the pass was accidental, not planned at all. My destination for the day was to summit Colden from the L Morgan Porter trail/false summit. Upon reaching the false summit, the clouds started to roll into the area. Making an effort to reach the true summit before inclement weather approached, it started to pour about 2/10's of a mile away from the summit. After finding the summit rock, I was planning to hike back the way I came in (above treeline for some time), when it started to thunder and lightning...wanting to get below treeline as quickly as possible, I decided to descend off the summit towards Lake Colden. The steep trail was like hiking in a continual waterfall. Reaching Lake Colden, came back up through the pass. Enjoyed every minute of this hike. Plan on hiking the pass again, hoping to do a loop of Avalanche Pass to Cold Brook Pass to Indian Pass.
