This trail is unpaved and has moderate, short climbs and descents. In the east sides of the volcanoes, you get an awe inspiring view of Albuquerque. On the west sides you get an open prairie view and can see Mt. Taylor. On the north sides you can see all the way to the Jemez Mountain Range. The elevation is well over a mile high and there are few places to get out of the sun.

This is a well-maintained trail, flat pretty much, no shade, good warm up. I did see the petrogylphs so made for an interesting walk.

This is a beautiful hike. The volcanoes look so big from the parking lot and as you're hiking up to them but once you actually get to them they're really not that big. There's a bathroom at the trail head in the parking lot and a lot of trails that you can wonder a round on. We did the bigger loop at almost 4 miles. For the most part it's flat and not to difficult to climb. Totally make sure to bring a hat and water. There isn't any shade or many trees really. There are a few covered sitting areas but those are closer to the parking lot. My 9 and 4 year old did this with a friend and I today and normally after about mile 2ish they start to complain about being tired but this trip they were fine with the whole distance. ENJOY!!!!

You can see these three volcanoes from almost anywhere in Albuquerque; it's kind of a surprise to get close up and find they are so small. There are several loop trails winding through the volcanoes ranging from .8 mile to 2 miles or more. There are restrooms but no water, and there is practically no shade, so this hike is best in spring or fall.
