Sawmill Park Trail is a 9 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Questa, New Mexico that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail offers a number of activity options and is best used from May until October.
Backpacked this trail with my family over the weekend. The hiking path was easy, clearly marked, clean, and beautiful. The Sawmill Park meadows were beautiful with flat and clean camp sites with fire rings. The close proximity to Horseshoe and Lost Lakes makes this a great destination because you can easily day hike to the lakes. Best of all there was no one at Sawmill Park, because most people camp at the lakes! The trail is 90% shaded which makes it a great trail in the summer.
One drawback is that Sawmill Park seems to be beneath a flight path, so planes are flying overhead most of the day and night.
