This trail along the ridgeline takes you out to the North Peak, a significant landmark of the Sandia Mountains. Along the way there are overlooks and side paths that provide impressive views of the Shield, the North Peak above it, the Needle, and the western canyon below. Most of the trail is along the Crest Trail (#130), but make sure to watch for the faint path to the west (left) to take you back up to the ridgeline, through some beautiful Aspen groves, and out to the North Sandia Peak. You know you've reached the peak when you find a couple of old cement foundation blocks from a signaling beacon used during World War II.
