Alamagordo - Carrizozo - Cloudcroft Area Campgrounds is located near Alamogordo, New Mexico. The trail is primarily used for camping and is accessible from April until October.
The climbing out of the Alamogordo area into Cloudcroft went well. I went directly to the Forest Service Ranger Station located one mile south of Cloudcroft. It is very nice and the "Ranger" was very helpful with ideas on hiking and camp sites. There are two site located close by that are only open from May- Sept and managed by RRM, inc. We decided to stay at Sleepy Grass campground and was met by a very helpful RPM host that was very informative and friendly. The host way of management is a sad reflection on were the national parks have had to go. Over all the camp site was very clean and private. The vault latrines were new and in very good condition. My two kids 8 and 10 really enjoyed exploring the camp site area.
