Outstanding views, historic ruins Take the blue blazed McEvoy Trl from parking lot. The trail climbs to Ramapo Lk where it joins a paved park road as it skirts the lake then turns north. The trail leaves the road at a sharp bend. Stay on road for about 50 yards and take the white blazed Castle Point Trl and begin a short, steep climb. At the top are some interesting ruins and outstanding views. Continue on the trail along ridge. The trail then descends, crosses a stream and turns uphill where it joins another park road and ends at Skyline Drive. Cross Skyline and take red blazed Cannonball Trl. Then a quick right onto the yellow blazed Hoeferlin Trl. Follow trail until it reaches Skyline Dr again and catch the white blazed Todd Trl by the Camp Tamarack sign. The Todd turns west into the woods and eventually joins a gravel camp road for a short distance, then turns south and reaches another outstanding overlook. Continue on Todd, across Skyline again and back to McEvoy. Left on MacEvoy to car.
Great hike!! Will definitely be back to explore a bit more.
Nice trail. The loop around the lake is scenic but more of a dirt road than a trail.
Nice hike with interesting features. The old ruined house is cool, views of the lake, and a decent overlook. Trails are well marked, classic jersey rocky and rooty.
nice trail, good views. the abandoned stone house is pretty cool with the old boiler still in tact. minimal traffic on a friday morning.
It's closer to NYC, so i guess i should expect graffiti and trash, but it was still a bit disappointing.
we started with the blue trail from Oakland then continue with the white trail which also called the castle point trail. It will lead you to the castle ruins. The white trail is a bit challenging at some point. The walk around the ramapo lake is easy. the lake is absolutely gorgeous.
I tackled this trail on a sunny beautiful Sunday in June. Had the wife along, so slowed down a little bit. I tracked this loop longer than the 5+ miles indicated. Used this as a warmup, along with others, for my Machu Picchu & Inca Trail trek this August. Be aware that this trailmap doesn't indicate all of the different color trails you'll use. It's also a little off at times. The far end of the loop, by the peaks and castle, are the trickiest. But overall a good workout. Lots of dogs but not too crowded being a Sunday. Def worth a few hours of your time
It's a nice loop of 3.5 mile around the beautiful lake. Place is peaceful & beautiful.
Love this place
My girlfriend and I had a fun day hiking around the lake and up to the ruins and lookouts. Some decent steep parts to her the heart pumping a bit. Definitely a good hike on a nice day!!
It was a great trail. We did orange to yellow and back using yellow/silver. Totaling a great 8.4 miles hike. Beautiful nature along the way, after you pass green, the view where Orange and Yellow meets is special.
love this trail. a lot to see.
