Great Swamp Wilderness - Orange Trail is a 4.5 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Green Village, NJ that offers the chance to see wildlife and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible year-round.
Pleasant and appropriate for young children well marked flat trail with interesting loops and a few wood bridges. Depending on the recent rain fall expect every .5 mile to have a wide muddy spot so boots not tennis shoes are the order of the day, and in the fall lots of insects. Flat fair through mixed wood and muddy patches. Several parkinglots allowing for different starts. The one near Long Hill Rd and Pleasantville Rd is easy and clear. The trail head at Woodland is often very overgrown, long pants required.
The path overall was decent only one man wide with brush overhanging along with the occasional tree you need to walk around. Can get some nice views of swampy land.
This path is not maintained often and at times it can become difficult to pick the right path due to sparse blazes.
Went in very early spring. Wear waterproof boots and tick repellant. Super cool vegetation and the frogs were so loud they were like a choir! A really nice but muddy walk.
Did the Orange Trail on 6/30/15. The trail was nothing but bugs so it is not just fall you have to worry about the bugs. The trail is more or less a one person width rarely wide enough for 2. It had not rained in a few days but was still nothing but mud the whole way from 3" - 6" at times.
No recent rain made the hike a lot more fun. Flat, well marked, but still an occasional mud hole. blue, yellow, ivroy loop
