Lakes of the Clouds Trail is a 4.5 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Twin Mountain, NH that features a lake and is rated as difficult. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible from March until November.
Spectacular scenary, ravine climb The trail is generally level for the first 2 miles at which time you will arrive at the gem pool. The last mile is VERY steep. Only the last 3/10ths of a mile is very exposed to the wind but in inclement weather that can be too much! Please remember that this is not a good place to hike in the winter and that Mt Washington has claimed over 125 lives. If you must go, you must know what you are doing and how to save yourself.

Great hike, even with a little one. First 2 miles were a breeze. After the pool it is a climb. Feels like you gain all 200ft in elevation in that last mile. Still a great climb and the hut is always fun.
We hiked from the base station to the lakes in about two and a half hours, a very easy hike despite it being 84 degrees that day. Once we were nearing the tree line, there were large, slippery patches of snow and ice, which made the descent a bit difficult. Upon reaching the lakes, we still had plenty of time, and continued to the summit of Washington.
It was a very fun hike, and not incredibly difficult- the only bad part was the hot weather. There are several stream crossings and fabulous waterfalls.
The lakes sit about 1200 feet below Mt. Washington, the highest summit in the Northeast, and below the summit of Mt. Monroe.
