Moderate to Difficult climb in sections but rewards are views and wildlife. It is advisable to come in through the Lonesome Lake Trail from the Laffayette Campground parking lot so you pass by the Lonesome Lake Hut. Great way to bag both N. and S. Kinsman peaks.
I used this trail to descend from Kinsman Ridge after bagging Cannon the Cannonballs and both Kinsman summits. seems a lot longer than 2 miles when you've already hiked 7 haha. even though it was winter I could tell that the trail seems to follow a brook for quite a ways. there is also a fair amount of up and down on this trail making it pretty strenuous after a long day of hiking.
this is a very quick spur trail for a great view of the pond with both kinsmen summits in the background definitely worth a couple of minutes down there for this view if you're already climbing both peaks anyways.
Would definitely recommend Kinsman Pond Trail,Fishin Jimmy trail is a real steep ascent but still a great hike.Joe the caretaker at Kinsman Pond Shelter is the best. Will over-night here again.
Great trail, would recommend this to all. Will be back
Snow on the second half of the trail in may! But still a blast- great waterfalls and swimming holes, moss galore!
