Bear Den Geological Park & Trail is a 1.2 mile out and back trail located near Gilsum, New Hampshire. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is accessible from April until October.
Nice little trail. Not well marked at all but fairly easy to follow. The rock formations about three quarters of a mile in are pretty awesome, and it's easy to see why it is called Bears Den. Saw a bear after hearing a crashing in the trees behind me and about 30 meters off the trail. It had been up a tree and when we were far enough away it crashed down through the branches and ambled off. No bother at all. Bring bear spray, though, just in case, especially in the fall when they are active trying to get fat for the winter. Or in the spring when they may have cubs or are trying to put on lost weight form the winter.
Really cool rock formations, Glacial Potholes, Boulder piles with numerous caves , shear rock face and nice views from top! My friend and I spent hours exploring this place and had a great time!
Short hike, pretty neat rock formations you can climb up to, easy to drive past since it's right on a turn near the top of the hill. It's a quick way to kill some time
