Spring Mountains: Wheeler Wash is a 5 mile out and back trail located near Las Vegas, NV. The trail is rated as moderate and primarily used for hiking.
There are no designated trails or trails recognized and in their inventory by USFS in the Wheeler Pass area on the west (Pahrump) side of the Spring Mountains. There are Forest Service roads on the motorized use map from 2007. Hopefully in the next few years we will have a recognized trail system because there are some wonderful existing routes that lead into the Wilderness.
The spring bloom was amazing this year, all the cactus had blooms on them in white, yellow, orange, red and pink.
There are numerous springs throughout the area for the wildlife which include Elk, Mustangs, Deer, Chukkar, Mountain Lions and Bobcats. This is a Wild Horse and Burro Herd Management Area. There's a handful of horseback riders that use the area on a regular basis, we see the occasional hiker and would love to see more because this side has just as much to offer as the busier east side.
Motorized users are quite prevalent in the area and most of them do stay on the roads where they're supposed to be, unfortunately there are always a few that feel the need to ruin virgin soil by cutting tracks into it. Please get a map of the roads before going and stay on them.
