I hiked this trail with my wife and two and a half year old golden retriever it was a nice hike skunk Harbor was gorgeous my golden retriever love the water as did I and my wife can't wait to go back
Pleasant short walk to a scenic beach. Crowded with many anchored boats. Many yellow jackets means people are sloppy with their trash.
excellent beach and hike. only issue was amount of bees in the area at the time of my hike
This is a great hike to do with kids. We did it with 13, 8 and 4 year old and they enjoyed it tremendously. Relatively easy walk on a broad forest road, plenty of small animals to see, huge pine cones to find, rocks to climb, and a secluded small beach at the end, so everyone can cool off in the pristine waters of Lake Tahoe.
The trail is frequented but not unpleasantly busy (on a weekday). The beach was quite crowded though. Many people boat there, adding to the crowds and blocking the lake with their anchored vessels.
Unless you are a beekeeper, do not go on this hike expecting a relaxing swim at the harbor. There were yellow jacket wasps everywhere, and I mean everywhere, so it was very hard to relax at the water. It is still a very bee-utiful hike, so if you don't mind wasps buzzing around you every second literally, then enjoy! Consider a re-name to Wasp harbor, just a suggestion.
Beautiful view of the many blues Lake Tahoe has to offer as candy to the eyes. Very nice trail and the awesome work they have done on the trails to nice steps avoiding twisted ankles
Biking in is great fun. There are a few off trail routes cut out by others you can find that include jumps off logs and so on. Travel light because getting back is all up for 500 ft. The beach is pretty perfect. Secluded coves and crystal water with sandy bottom. Fun rocks to boulder around and dive off.
Popular days will attract a few boats but get lucky or go/stay late in the day and you may be there alone.
Bring your hammock to put between the old pier stumps over the water.
Beautiful and a great beach for young children. Getting in was easy but our 4 year old did a bit of complaining on the way out because it's all up hill. Worth the walk.
