Oxbow Nature Study Area Nature Trail is a 0.8 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Reno, Nevada that features a river and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, and birding and is accessible year-round.
This weekend due to all of the rain there was no trail to be seen. Everything was flooded! It was still fun to try and explore the area as much as we could. The "glassy pond" was more like a flowing river! We did get to see some snow flurries while we were there which was really cool.
It was a nice easy walk. We watched the ducks and geese. We were lucky enough to be able to watch two trains go by. It wasn't very busy. The signs warned that the gates would be closed at certain times. We believe they forgot one of the gates to leave open when we went, so we had to backtrack to get back to the vehicle (we were there two hours before they were to close). The one gate being closed was the only thing that was negative for us.
So nice. Took my younger siblings and they loved it! it's not very difficult so we just walked and explored the area. There are a few different paths to take but they all lead in the same general area and depending on which you go down, it can be more marshland or vegetation and small man-made structures. Is a nice place for runs, jogs, and simple nature walks.
Beautiful trail. Fun for any age.
closes at 4 and your car will be towed but not to bad.
A perfect place to escape the city, especially during the summer where there's lots of shady areas to walk here
Great little stroll for small kids or just a quick getaway. Pretty scenery.
Great place in town to take the kids for a picnic.
Great trail. Especially for kiddos. We saw deer, rabbit, duck, and many birds. Daughter absolutely loved it, and I had fun too.
Flat maintained trail. Introducing my 3 year old to hiking, he loved it! Trail does have small pond and goes next to the river. Good small child trail.
