You pass 2 lakes on the way to the saddle before you start to drop down to Liberty Lake. We ran oit of time but only made it to the saddle. We had a perfect view of liberty lake. Liberty Lake has an amazing blue-green tint. We sat at the saddle overlooking the Lake along with other ridges and peaks. Great hike.
Awesome trail, starting from the parking lot to the Lamoille Lake is probably the best part of the trail. Afterwards the trail becomes an ascend and the environment becomes rocky all the way to the summit, upon descending you'll see Liberty Lake, when you finally get to Liberty Lake you'll see some patches of forest but that's if you're going to continue to Favre lake. The perimeter of Liberty Lake is where you'll those hikers who brought tents. In fact that day there was one guy on a boat at the Lake. This is mostly a moderate hike with some parts where you'll have to cross some snow patches. The trail all the way to Liberty Lake is clearly defined. It's one of those trails worth doing at least once and perhaps staying over night is the best way to experience this place.
If you climb up to the top of the peak on the left just as you reach Liberty Pass, you will have a view of 5 lakes - Liberty, Favre, Castle, Lamoille and Dollar Lakes.
Reached the pass above the lake in just under 90 minutes. Great views all around. Hit the trail early because I saw no one on the way up but ran into at least a dozen groups on the decent. Still small pockets of snow to be found.
