Hiking Gray Cap Peak in Red Rocks is a great workout and offers some amazing views. You begin the hike rather easily. Follow the Calico Tanks signs out of the parking lot to the north, then head right into the canyon that emerges. You will experience a long, winding, short-hill descent, and then will arrive at an intersection of two valleys. Be sure to head left at this point. You can follow the trail (often just to the east of the creek bed) or scramble up the creek itself. When you begin to see a Red Rock valley open up to your right, scramble up the hill to the north in an eastward direction. Follow the ridge to the summit and enjoy the views.
This trail was relatively easy up up to the scramble area. The scramble was not difficult but was tiring. The trail from that point on was not well defined but had a few hard to notice cairns. The view from the top was great.
