Elkhorn River is a 8.3 mile lightly trafficked point-to-point trail located near Valley, Nebraska that features a river and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for nature trips, birding, and canoeing and is best used from April until October.
This was a kayaking trip down the Elkhorn River from the Pawnee Rd. bridge to the Maple St. bridge. Got into the river on the North West side of the Pawnee bridge. It was a steep drop, so I would recommend looking for a flatter entry. Took about 2 hrs to get to Maple. There is a small concrete pierce on the South East side of the Maple Rd. bridge, which made it for a an easy exit. Be ready for shallow parts. I got stuck a couple of times, but managed to get going without getting out of my kayak.
The trip was in early November with a chilly 41 degrees at 7 AM. The wet suit made it nice and toasty.
Saw a couple of deer and lots of birds. Definitely one of the most scenic nature trips I had in the area.
