Boiling River Trail is a 1.3 mile heavily trafficked out and back trail located near Gardiner, Montana that features hot springs and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, nature trips, birding, and horses and is best used from March until October. Horses are also able to use this trail.
This is an easy there-and-back hike with a hot spring to soak in at the destination. The hot springs are closed to swimmers during spring flooding (undetermined date in May until undetermined date in July usually).

Nothing quite like submitting to the colossal powers of the world's largest super volcano by relaxing in the boiling waters just above it's monumental caldera.
I believe that the parking lot closes at 7pm or sundown and it is strictly enforced so be sure to get there in ample time to enjoy the magic waters of the Boiling River.
Nice easy hike and the river is so awesome! Perfect for a soak after a day of hiking!
The hike itself is easy and short. I've been several times and seen bison, big horn sheep, deer, and elk along the way. It's prettiest in the winter, but braving the cold hike back to the car after swimming in the hot water is tough!
Super fun experience at Yellowstone! Be careful of the scalding hot water (I wouldn't bring small children here unless you are one of the lucky people to get a "sweet spot"). Saw snakes on the way to the water (not poisonous, and did not see any in the water, but who knows). Don't dip your face in the water because there are supposedly some weird bacteria that live there!
If a person has the opportunity, a soak in the Boiling River is truly a good once-in-a-lifetime experience. From the parking area inside Yellowstone National Park, and just slightly south of the 45th Parallel, you take a short hike of one-half mile to the Boiling River. You do have to be very careful. The natural hot water can scald you easily. But when you are in the sweet spots where the hot water is blended with the Gardner River - it's a good thing.
Very easy hike... But bring water shoes of some sort to get to the nice hot water spot in the river because it's really hard if you go bare feet! Too crowded for me at the time I went. One restroom available at the beginning of the trail. Saw a snake in a hole, pay attention where you walk. Check.
Took a trip out to Yellowstone and this was one of the highlights! We got there early (around 8 am) and we were the first ones there. Perfect, because it started getting busy around 9:30 AM.
Beautiful drive to get to the boiling river (came through Gardiner). The hot springs itself looks amazing. Bring some water shoes, this will really help you out!!!
Getting in was hard. There were drastic temperature changes in the water. It was either freezing or scolding hot. We went to the very far end and found some nice soaking spots where the temp was perfect.
Again, this place gets busy, so get there early! The parking area is small.

This 1.3 mile out and back hike is very easy. At the destination is a great place to soak in the hot springs of Yellowstone National Park safely. Wildlife viewing is also possible; I saw an osprey catch a small fish in the Gardner River while at Boiling River. The hot springs are only available in the daytime when there is no spring flooding.
Nice little walk to a beautiful hot springs area. Easy, easy walk.
The attraction here is soaking. I usually get a spot that half of me is too cold, and half of me is too hot, so I have to keep rotating. I like it best in December when it is less crowded.
